في تداعيات مرحلة ما بعد
الحرب الأخيرة على العراق في ربيع عام 2003 ، وعند عودتنا إلى
كلية الفنون الجميلة في بغداد لمواصلة دراسة الماجستير ، فوجئت
بأن مكتبة الكلية قد أحرقت بالكامل ، وتحولت خزاناتها وخزائنها
من الكتب النفيسة إلى حطام . وكان ذلك ضمن سلسلة أعمال الفوضى
التي عمت البلاد. كافة موجودات المكتبة أحرقت . لم يبق كتاب
واحد ، وحولت كل المصادر والمراجع العلمية والفنية إلى مجرد
رماد مبعثر . كان ذلك هو حال أغلب المكتبات في الجامعات
والمعاهد والكليات العراقية ، وهكذا أصبح حال الطلبة. لقد
فقدوا كنوز المعرفة التي كانت تزخر بها مكتبات الصروح العلمية
، وافتقدوا الكتب التي تسعفهم في دراساتهم الأكاديمية.
في هذا العمل الفني ، أحاول إعادة ذلك الزمان من خلال الفيديو
آرت بأسلوب تعبيري ، ليتمكن المتلقي من تصور بشاعة الفعل
ومأساة الحدث. هذه الخزانة الحديدية ، ذات المقطع العلوي على
شكل حرف مسماري هي نموذج لمئات من الخزانات المكتبية التي وقعت
فريسة لاعتداء كارثي ، وتحولت إلى ركام بعد أن دمرت موجوداتها
التي احتوت على مختلف مصادر المعارف والعلوم.
خزانة حديدية بائسة. على رفوفها عشرات الكتب المنكوبة بفعل
الحرق. إنه مشهد يستفز المشاعر ويحث على التفكير في حيثيات ذلك
الفعل التدميري وتداعياته بحق الثقافة.
Within the
framework of the consequences and repercussions of the
post-war period in the wake of the war launched on Iraq in
the spring of 2003, when we returned to the College of Fine
Arts in Baghdad to resume our Master's Degree studies, I was
utterly shocked to find that the library of the College had
been completely burnt and that all the precious books had
been transformed to mere detritus.
Not even a single book
remained. All the educational and scientific reference
books, all the sources of knowledge, all of them had been
made scattered ashes. This was the situation of most
libraries in Iraqi universities, institutes and colleges.
The students could no more seek help in those treasures of
knowledge which is essential for their academic achievement.
In this Artwork, I attempt to bring back that time via the
Video Art in an expressionistic style to help the audience
imagine the atrocity of the act and catastrophic tragedy of
the event. This iron book case, with the cuneiform shape of
its top view section, is a sample of hundreds of iron book
cases that were victimized in distressful assaults.
A
melancholic book case. On its shelves are thousands of
books, precious victims of deliberate burning. A provoking
scene that motivates sensations and urges us to think about
the causes and repercussions of the destructive aggression.
À notre retour au collège des beaux arts à Bagdad, prêt à
reprendre nos études de master dans cette période de
post-guerre, après les attaques contre l’Iraq au printemps
2003, j’étais bouleversé de voir que la librairie du collège
avait été brûlée entièrement. Tous ces livres précieux, tous
les livres d’éducation et de référence scientifique, toutes
ces sources du savoir, réduites en cendres.
Pas un seul
livre ne demeura. C’était la situation de presque toutes les
librairies d’université, d’instituts et des collèges
iraquiens.Les étudiants n’avaient plus à leur disposition
tous ces trésors du savoir, essentiel à toute réussite
académique.
Dans cet œuvre, j’essaye de représenter cette époque à
travers l’art vidéo dans un style expressionniste, pour
permettre à l’audience de s’imaginer l’atrocité et la
tragédie catastrophique de l’évènement. Cette bibliothèque
ferrique avec les symboles cunéiformes sur la partie
supérieure est seulement un exemple pour centaines de
bibliothèques qui ont été détruites dans des attaques
atroces. C’est une bibliothèque mélancolique. Sur ses
étagères sont des milliers de livres, des objets précieux,
victimes d’incendies délibérées. Une scène provocatrice qui
éveille des sentiments et qui nous pousse à réfléchir sur
les causes et les effets de cette agression destructive.
