حقائبُ الهجرة

لقد أعتاد معظم العراقيين اللاجئين الى أميركا شراء حقائب سفر محددة العدد والقياس والوزن من قبل دائرة الهجرة. ولأن اغلب العراقيين المهاجرين يسافرون للمرة الاولى, فلقد حرصوا على الألتزام التام بالمواصفات الخاصة بحقيبة السفر التي سمحت دائرة الهجرة بها وهي: حقيبتان أثنتان لكل مسافر على ان لا يزيد وزن الواحدة عن 50 رطلا(23.5 كيلوغراما) وأن لا تتعدى أبعادها عن ال(60*80*20 سم)-(31.5*23.6*7.8 أنج).
فأصبحت هذه المواصفات مألوفة لدى محلات بيع الحقائب في الدول التي تستضيف اللاجئين مؤقتاً مثل الاردن, سوريا, لبنان...وباتت المعامل تنتج منها كميات وفيرة لكثرة عدد المسافرين, أذ إن المسافر يكتفي بأن يسأل عن حقيبة ال (IOM) لكي يعطيه البائع طلبه. فأصبج مصطلح ال(IOM) شائعاً ومألوفا كشيوع نفس الحقيبة التي يحملونها في رحلة اللجوء.

في هذا العمل التجهيزي, حقيبتين من الحقائب العشرة التي حملتها أنا وعائلتي في رحلة السفر الى عالم ما وراء البحار, الى الولايات المتحدة الأمريكية. لتكونا شاهدتين على تفاصيل معاناة تجربة جديدة في عوالم المنفى واللجوء والهجرة.

The majority of Iraqi refugees, who immigrated to the United States, were told by the -International Organization for Migration -"IOM" to use luggage in limited numbers and specific dimensions and weight. As the most of the refugees were traveling for the first time, they followed the instructions mandated by the immigration office.

The guidelines were: two bags only per passenger, no more than 50 pounds in weight (23.5 kilograms), and the dimensions should (60 x 80 x 20 cm) - (31.5 x 23.6 x 7.8 inches). These guidelines became common knowledge at luggage stores in the countries that host refugees temporarily, like Jordan, Syria, Lebanon ... Factories started to mass produce them to accommodate the high number of travelers. Therefore, a traveler only needs to ask about "the IOM bag" to get what he wants.

"IOM" became a common term, just as common as the bags people carry during the immigration journey. This installation includes two of the ten bags my family and I carried through our flight to the land beyond the seas, to the United States of America. They are witnesses of struggle that we experienced in the worlds of exile, refuge and immigration.
